United States Senator Marco Rubis, who competed in the 2016 presidential election, has held a meeting with Ethiopian journalist Eskinder Nega at his office in Washington DC today.
Eskinder Nega was among thousands of political prisoners who were freed two months ago following a nation-wide civil unrest in Ethiopia.
Here is the meeting:
Prominent Ethiopian journalist and human rights activist @eskindernega was recently released after almost seven years in prison for his work. He has dedicated his life to the defense of democracy, and I’m proud to lend a voice to his cause. https://t.co/9r29ryjSnI

After advocating on his behalf, I was honored to meet with Ethiopian journalist @eskindernega, who is finally free after being wrongly imprisoned for almost 7 years. His case is a reminder of why we must continue to advocate for #humanrights worldwide #ExpressionNOToppression pic.twitter.com/b4cAXwDUa6
